Bring Me to Life
How can you see into my eyes, like open doors
Leading you down into my core, where I’ve become so numb
Without a soul
My spirit’s sleeping somewhere cold
Until you find it there and lead it back
Home
(Wake me up) Wake me up inside
(I can’t wake up) Wake me up inside
(Save me) Call my name and save me from the dark
(Wake me up) Bid my blood to run
(I can’t wake up) Before I come undone
(Save me) Save me from the nothing I’ve become
Now that I know what I’m without, you can’t just leave me
Breathe into me, and make me real
Bring me to life
(Wake me up) Wake me up inside
(I can’t wake up) Wake me up inside
(Save me) Call my name and save me from the dark
(Wake me up) Bid by blood to run
(I can’t wake up) Before I come undone
(Save me) Save me from the nothing I’ve become
Bring me to life
(I’ve been livin’ a lie; there’s nothing inside)
Bring me to life
Frozen inside, without your touch, without your love, darling
Only you are the life among the dead
(All of this time, I can’t believe I couldn’t see
Kept in the dark, but you were there in front of me)
I’ve been sleeping a thousand years, it seems
Got to open my eyes to everything
(Without a thought, without a voice, without a soul
Don’t let me die here
There must be something more)
Bring me to life
(Wake me up) Wake me up inside
(I can’t wake up) Wake me up inside
(Save me) Call my name and save me from the dark
(Wake me up) Bid my blood to run
(I can’t wake up) Before I come undone
(Save me) Save me from the nothing I’ve become
Bring me to life
(I’ve been livin’ a lie; there’s nothing inside)
Bring me to life
-“Bring Me to Life” by Evanescence
The flames leapt to the sky, licking the stars with angry, orange tongues. Their glow lit the earth with a macabre light of death, surrounding, enveloping. Timbers from a building creaked, shivered, and fell in a shower of exploding sparks. Fire was a demon-like creature, devouring everything in its reach, opening wide its hungry jaws and choking the air with black, poisonous breath. It lived on wood, on stone, on the screams of life that could not escape it. It was sentient. It was evil.
One place it avoided, a huge tower, dominating the landscape. Skellington Manor. The flames never once touched that place. They had been commanded not to. And though the fire was a wild animal, it served one master, one mind desiring of something it could not possess.
The fire swirled up into a column, swaying like a reptilian nightmare of revenge, searching out a particular victim. It had orders.
A shape stirred for a moment on the ground beneath it. Shifted. A breath, almost imperceptible movement.
But it was enough. With a crackling hiss, flames descended, wrapping—someone—in a cruel blanket of heat. Fangs of fire sunk into a soft form, withdrew. Once. Twice. Thrice.
Leaning to strike again.
No need. Mingling with the pumpkin-colored flames, a mist; palest shades of blue, intertwined with touches of black.
There! That was it! The fire had completed its task here. Fetched what its master called for. But why not finish the deed? Yes, indeed, why not?
Flames crackled. Hissed. Slowly, torturously, achingly, Halloween Town was razed to the ground.
All who remained could only watch, tears streaming from their eyes from the smoke and the sadness. Anyone not huddled in the small cave was most likely gone forever.
Of course, they told themselves, there was always a chance that they were holding out elsewhere. There are—were—thousands of crevices and hidey-holes in Halloween Town. There had to be—what good was it to scare someone if they saw you first, after all? All those secret places would have a double use now. Yes. That must be it. They were hiding. This was the sort of thing that happened to other people. Not to you. Not to your loved ones.
Not to your town.
Here, before their eyes, it was happening.
It would be foolish to head back in there. Anyone in the fire was immediately engulfed by swirling flames, the life sucked from them.
All they could do was watch, eyes reddened from crying and the black smoke, scorched by the vengeful fire, bedraggled and hopeless.
And, it seemed, all alone.
The fire ate at the buildings and the terror, until its target was utterly destroyed and the air filled with the reek of its burning. Then, slowly, it gathered itself, flickered once or twice, and disappeared, leaving behind it the feel of death.
“Perfect!” bellowed a gleeful voice, as its owner viewed the chaos from deep inside its lair.
“Perfect,” smirked an entirely different voice, a voice that almost no one knew about. A
voice far from everything taking place, yet knowing all that had occurred. The plan had come off perfectly, as expected. Why should it not?

Author’s Note: Okay, I know this doesn’t seem at all relevant to the title or the song “Bring Me to Life”, but just wait and see, there is a connection! A very big one, just hold on and be patient. It will appear, I promise. I also promise the next chapter will be longer…please comment! THANKS EVERYONE!!!!!!!!!
